‘The Sewage Works path’ is the bridleway from Oakridge Lane to Blackbirds Lane. A local group had applied for a nearby path to be recorded as a footpath, and Hertsmere Borough Council, being content that the user evidence raised a reasonable allegation that there was a footpath, made an order appropriately. There were objections and an inquiry was held. At this stage the order was modified to include the Sewage Works path as a footpath. At this point the British Horse Society access and bridleways officer for Hertsmere objected because that extra path was being ridden. After a further inquiry, the added route was changed to bridleway and the earlier footpath was deleted all together, hence an order refering to a footpath that added a bridleway!
The Patchetts Green Riding Club held a bridleways Club Night at which Hubert Reynolds from BHS HQ was the main speaker. Subsequently, members surveyed riding routes in Hertsmere and nearby as part of the British Horse Society’s ‘Year of the ARROW’. The results of the survey were used to prevent further degradation of any of the definitive paths, and to identify paths that needed recording for follow-up work.
