This common is on the south side of Box Lane (public road) and is crossed by
Hemel Hempstead 109 restricted byway and
Hemel Hempstead 132 bridleway.
This is a common which was in an Urban District prior to 1974. As such it has rights of access on horseback, unless these have otherwise been restricted. We need a volunteer to photograph routes on the common for this year's Access and Riding Rights of Way Survey. It's easy - just take photographs (safely) when you use the paths. Find out more! |
Common Land Number: CL22 |

The Open Spaces Society took advantage of the opportunity provided by the Commons Act 2006 to apply for the extension shown in green on the plan to be recorded as a common. This was agreed by the County Council and upheld by an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State. The common's area was increased on 7 Sep 23. We thank Dr Frances Kerner of the OSS for the research and legal work needed to secure the common registration and hence rights of access for the public. | ||||
| Legal History Application by the Open Spaces Society to record Bury Wood (to the south of the western part of the common) also as common land. 7 Sep 2023: Inspector adds Bury Wood to Commons Register. PINS reference: COM/3313181. |
