This path runs from Cherry's Green Road to Westmill 7 bridleway. We need a volunteer to photograph this route for this year's Access and Riding Rights of Way Survey. It's easy - just take photographs (safely) when you use the path. Find out more!

Legal History 2 Feb 1953: The route was recorded as CRB (Carriage Road used as a Bridleway) on the original definitive statement. DM sheet DM1-09 (Herts 13 SE). It was longer than it is today. The additional piece went from the junction with Westmill 7 westwards to a junction with Westmill 6. 31 Dec 1977: Westmill 5 (from Westmill 7 southwards) was shown as a bridleway on the special review draft map and statement. DM sheet SR-24. The section from Westmill 7 to Westmill 6 was deleted. There must have been an objection to the status because it remained a RUPP on subsequent definitive maps. 7 Aug 1981: London Gazette notices of intention to ask Magistrates to stop up Westmill 6 and Westmill 5 CRB (part). HCC reference DM1/074. 8 Sep 1981: Petty Sessional Diversion of Hertford and Ware Extinguishment of CRB6 and CRB5 (part) Parish of Westmill Order 1981 stopped up the route and created Westmill 10 bridleway. HCC reference DM1/074. 2 May 2006: Restricted Byway rights were confirmed or created on Westmill 5 (remaining section) by virtue of ss 47 and 48 Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. 4 Jan 2022: Cross-reference error to Westmill 7 FP in Westmill 5 definitive statement queried with HCC and advice sought on how best to correct. 12 Mar 2022: HCC advise it will be corrected by LEMO.

Definitive Statement (4 Dec 2015) Path: [Westmill] 5.  Status: Bridleway.  Definitive Map sheet: 23 Westmill Green - Wakeley Cart track with irregular surface, 10 feet wide, continues from Cherry's Green Road NW 250 yards through meadow land then a further 200 yards to FP7.
