The northern section of Hitchin 28 byway starts on Carters Lane (public road) at the junction with Offley 40 bridleway, and appears to run concurrently with Carters Lane, generally northwards, to end at the junction with Hexton Road, Pirton Road and Hitchin Road (all public roads).

At the time of the 2024 Access Survey (28 Jul 24), there were no gates or other obstructions across the path and it was signposted at each end. The route has a hard surface.
