Map showing Aspenden 2 and 11 bridleways

This route starts on School Lane (public road) as Aspenden 2 bridleway and continues northwards then generally eastwards. It continues as Aspenden 11 bridleway to the side of the A10 then follows the field edge to Aspenden Road (public road).

A volunteer has photographed this route for the 2021/22 Access and Riding Rights of Way Survey, and the page will be updated shortly. Find out more!

At the time of the BHS 2022 Access Survey (11 Sep 22), no gates were across the path, but there was a poorly aligned horse stile at the eastern end. There was no signpost at the eastern end, and the one at the western end incorrectly read 'footpath'. Both signage faults were reported to the County Council on 11 Sep 22.

EHFS BHS Following a query from a local rider, the British Horse Society applied for Footpath 2 to be upgraded and extended eastwards. After making the application, it turned out that the East Herts Footpaths Society had already made a similar application, nearly twenty years earlier. The historical evidence showed a continuous route but it was now severed by the A10. The County Council agreed with the application and an order was made in 2018 and confirmed unopposed. In parallel, the County Council diverted the bridleway on the east side of the A10 to enable the bridleway on the west side to be joined to the road.
