A Pegasus Crossing is a light-controlled road crossing, described in the legislation as an ‘equestrian crossing’, akin to Toucan and Pelican crossings. The standard Pegasus crossing has equestrians separated from walkers and cyclists and can be installed by the highway authority (the county council or unitary authority). Non-standard Pegasus crossings can be installed, but the highway authority must then get approval from the Department for Transport. The signage is set out in The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 (SI 2006/362).
Diagram 4003.3 (shown) shows the design of the front panel to the light-controlled crossing.
